View Full Version : MythBackend motherboard

I've been using MythTV on two media centers now, I also have a Windows Server with around 4TB worth of raid arrays.

With the server always being on, and the media centers being on when they need to record (as well as watching tv of course), I figured it was a waste of power to not combine the server and media centers into one (mythtv) backend.

That way the media centers would only need to be turned on to watch tv, and never to record it. And saving power in this 'green age' is always good ;)

This gets me into a small issue though, I need to find a motherboard with 3-4(more?) PCI slots, onboard VGA, preferably dual gigabit (can they easily be teamed in linux?) and last but not least, an 8x PCI-E slot (for my Areca raid-controller).

The PCI slots would be filled with Technotrend C-1501 cards (DVB-C), I'm not sure if I'd run into IRQ problems with 3+ of these cards though.

Preferably it would be a S478 or S775 motherboard as I have some old processors lying around. It doesnt need fancy sound or dvi/hdmi output, as it makes too much noise to ever be in a living room.

Did a search on this forum and went back like 7 pages and couldnt really find what I was looking for so figured I'd smack this 'new thread' button :)

Thanks.

Hi,

I can't say much about what motherboard but my backend has 3 PCI slots filled with 2 DVB-C cards and a PVR-500 (dual analog) and I've got no interrupt problems.

If you can't find a motherboard then maybe have a look at DVB-c USB sticks.
