I just got two old 233 MHz ThinkPads with a small amount of RAM (32 MB or 64MB I think, I have the ability to upgrade). Since Windows 98 is out of question (that's what it was made for) what Ubuntu variant should I use? I'm thinking probably Xubuntu, or is it possible to run Ubuntu on that slow a computer?

With Xubuntu, how much RAM should I have?

Ubuntu?

Thanks,

Harlan

I'd honestly go with something smaller and lighter, which means non-Ubuntu.

Something with that little RAM should probably run something like DeLi (http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=deli), I think.

Also, for future reference this should probably be in "Other OS Talk". Good luck!

Ah.. sorry. If it had 256 MB of RAM? 128 MB? Would that be acceptable?

You could possibly run Xubuntu with 256, though any Ubuntu derivative would still be a bit sluggish.

Check this Sticky (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=575456) from Other OS Talk - it may be of help.
