Hi guys, not sure if this has been posted before but, I was wondering if I can get some help. I have windows xp installed at a laptop and i want to have a dual boot with Ubuntu but I have set e netbios password and I cannot remember it. Now when I try to install Ubuntu it will not allow me using the 8.4 not sure if the guys have fixed this with the new version 8.10. I have Ubuntu installed on my laptop but, I need to do this for my girl. I was wondering if there was a way to do it. Thank you all.

Nto sure what you mean by the netbios password. Do you mean the BIOS password that prevents you from entering the PC setup (before the operating system tries to boot)? If so, I think resetting that is rather dependent on the make of the PC, but I have heard that removing the battery for a few hours can do it (if it has one).

Thank you and Sorry, I meant BIOS password. The make of the laptop is Compaq Evo.Is there another way without removing the battery?

Otherwise the only way to clear the BIOS is to remove the RTC battery. There should be instructions in your manual. If you don't have a manual one is available here:
