Ubuntu has matured to "almost there", using wubi, installation was surprisingly sophisticated and easy, lots of work to make it smooth.

On my older laptop works surprisingly well and feels snappy, it is netgear wireless card that is giving me fits, since I don't have connection to the internet.

When I connect to my router via ethernet wire it works great and able to get the picasa and google earth working, sweet.

It is exciting and am glad to have another OS that works. I may have to get a another wireless laptop card unfortunately.

Yes, Linux is advancing fast.
Wireless can give trouble but most often it's fixable (don't ask me how ;-))

Yeah, Ubuntu is already in my opinion matured enough for the desktop. The wireless needs work, and probably with a little research you can probably get that card working easily.
