View Full Version : [ubuntu] msn messenger virus??????

hi im a bit confused, frieds of mine told me that i would send them messages, something like "come on and check out this hp". i found a virus on windows that fits this description, but nothing like this in linux. i used pidgin and now emesene but nothing changed. i also changed my msn password...
any suggestions?

Unless you have that set up on another machine running windows, I have no clue.

Thats pretty normal in the windows world. I used to get emails accusing me of sending the same type of emails. It was a spammer mostly that was spoofing my email address. It was an email address that I had since 1994 and I really didn't want to give it up, but in the end I was getting more abuse type email than anything else, so I gave it up.

I think I have seen that before. I have a feeling that the virus actually works a lot like the email virii did. What the virus probably does is to use another user from user list and spoof the message to say that it came from that user. Unless someone has ported that particular virus over to linux....

Well if you fell victim to the same social engineering scheme in the thread you linked to, you gave your login information to some random website. If you willingly gave away your login credentials, then no virus is needed. If changing your password doesn't immediately stop them from using your account, maybe they still have an active session which was started before you changed the password.
