Over the next week, I'll be identifying the components to put together a new system.

I plan on building it around the most powerful Intel chip & lastest mother board that Ubuntu will support.

I'm considering this processor:

Intel BX80574QX9775 Core 2 Extreme QX9775 Yorkfield XE 3.20 GHz CPU

Anyone have any recommendations? How can I check if Ubuntu supports different hardware? Where is the diffinative list?

Does Ubuntu support dual core? How about hyper-threading?

Is DDR3 currently the best/fastest RAM?

yes duel core is supported, best bet is to look at the two sticky posts in this forum
Search the forums and also use google to check compatibility.

eg I search
hda intel linux
hda intel debian
hda intel ubuntu

also worth looking at the ubuntu community docs (https://help.ubuntu.com/)
and ubuntu wiki (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/)
