Have you tried running these commands?

sudo -s
echo 'blacklist ath_pci' >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
apt-get install ndiswrapper*

wget ftp ://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_4710/driver/Wireless_Atheros.zip

(remove the space between ftp &:, i.e. ftp://)

unzip Wireless*
cd Atheros
unzip HR*
ndiswrapper -i net5211.inf
echo 'ndiswrapper' >> /etc/modules

This is how I get my Atheros 5007 card working.

I forgot to put on there that you need to restart the computer after running the commands.

figured that part out. BTW you post was helpful in getting me to look in the right places. another post about how to reinstall the net work manager sealed the deal and i am now happily posting from wireless WPA encrypted ubuntu. Thanks for the help. your driver worked better and then from there it was a network manager issue.

Up and surfing good for 2 hours wireless now i also got mp3s dvd playback with menus and Citrix metaframe client up and running.

any updates to this that work with the newest version of ubuntu? I seem to be having same problem... and did what's suggested but it didn't help. Wifi Radar still sees nothing, and the switch on the wifi slider on computer still is red/orange, not blue.
