Hi. I dont know if this is the right place to post questions about smart cards.

But just out of curiosity. If I had a smartcard for iex. laundromat/buss. Would it be possible to cheaply read and edit the info on the card?

I have no skills in programming or anything, but would it be possible for me to learn how to alter the information, and change this information easily?

Have a look here:

You are only looking into this as a thought experiment, and not a way to hack the card, right? :)

Well this is a security-issue. And as I am a journalist as well as a student, it would be an ace article to crack a bus-card and then write about it afterwards. That is, if a novice like me could do it. Not for gaining bus-rides, but for gaining salary from my employer: )

I haven't had anything to do with smart cards for quite a few years, but one of the guys I worked with at the time accidently forgot to bring back a complete card duplicating setup including reprograming smart cards. I believe he might be getting out of jail fairly soon. :)
