Ive tried reading past threads, but cant find anything thats basic enough for my total stupidity (or thats how it seems t me) I found a thread showing how to install a driver , but when I try to enter the commands in the terminal I gt errors .
I dont really have a clue what Im doing so would ask that any responses are "idiots guide" in simplicity.

I have a Lexmark 1290 but the pc refuses to even see it !
I have seen that many people suffer from Lexmarks not working but also many seem to get them up and running.
PLase help me to gt this working, as a pc with no print facility is a waste of time, and I don't want to resort to Windows :) but at least my printer worked on that.

You should be able to get this one to work (for printing, anyway) after a certain amount of well-documented messing around. Check:

Thanks,
however as I said I have no idea what im doing here, and have no idea what CUPS is or what if anything I Need to do , to install anything I May need. My efforts so far lead me to error messages, and areas I know nothing about.
I was taken to a page to add a printer but cant find the x1290 anywhere on it ?
Help please

Have you tried this (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=49714) How-To thread? The thread has a link to the lexmark site, where you can look for and download the driver if you need.

Let us know if you've checked this thread out and if you have the driver yet.

I had a lot of difficulty setting up my printer, it was definitely a learning experience. Your printer has good prospects as indicated on the openprinting site.
