View Full Version : [ubuntu] 8.04 Where is Hardware Information?

I just updated to 8.04 on-line and was trying to install a wireless network connection (unsuccessfully so far...).
To check for device recognition the troubleshooting guide Step 1 is -
"Open Device Manager (System > Preferences > Hardware Information)".

I do not have that option in the list under preferences or anywhere else that I have looked.
Am I missing something in the install?
Thanks

i've never seen a menu item like that, but in a terminal you can just type

lshw

rvc,

did you find out what kind of wireless network adapter you have? I have an updated command for you

lshw -C network

that just shows you all the devices in your pc with the network class :)

I would also like to point out that Ubuntu 8.10 has a lot of updates for wireless network adapters. the release notes also have specific instructions for the atheros and intel adaptors.

It has been removed in newer versions of ubuntu.

here is how you get it back.

sudo apt-get install gnome-device-manager
