Not relevant to this thread, but are you a Robert Ludlum fan?

Very true, and no.

Is this a question or a statement?

Presumably it's a statement (as in, he's not getting the alerts), but he's asking how to enable this option (or why it's not working if he's already enabled it)

I checked your account settings, and they seem correct, so perhaps there is a problem with the server. I'm moving this to Feedback & Help so that maybe an admin will see it.

Anyone else having similar issues?

The new Windows Live is apparently set to not cooperate with the linux systems as shown by the email I got in response to a tech inquiry I sent them:

"Thank you for writing to Windows Live Hotmail Technical Support. My name is Maybelle and I understand that you are having issues with your account. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Upon checking the information that you have provided us, we have noticed that you are using Linux to access Windows Live Hotmail. I regret to inform you that Linux is not currently a supported operating system of Windows Live Hotmail. This is the reason why you are encountering issues. In the meantime, I suggest that you use another computer with a different operating system to access your account."

In other words, use windows OS or no hotmail !! I have switched all my accounts to another mail platform and am not having any problems.

It has always been since IE was brought into the picture.

Not HTML -- it's the dynamic content, usually involving DirectX, that is tied to Windows in some cases. If the web were just a bunch of Geocities pages circa 1995, then there would be no cross-platform browser issues.

Of course, no would use the web, either.

That is true, but it is also the standard stuff like CSS and JavaScript that makes cross browser support horrible.

And yet, most companies that care do manage to produce web sites that work across different OSs.

To me anyone who starts installing IE under Wine to get Hotmail back running (which I have seen people doing) is a Microsoft slave.

Then you have very trivial notions of what constitutes slavery.

No, that person is living his life. I don't have to use Linux at all. You telling me not to use IE, according to your logic, is attempting to make me YOUR slave.
