I colored my xterm using colors defined in my ~/.Xdefaults (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xdefaults#Terminal_colors) file. Although it only colors listings, not man pages or Pacman.

If you have a look down the table of contents of this page:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Post_Installation_Tips#Configure_dhcpcd
You will see a few colorizing how-to's.
Then there is this one specifically for Pacman:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pak:_Pacman_In_Color_And_More
I use all of the above & find them helpful in my day to day use.
