Hi all,

I have an Emu 1820M that I have been using with Windoze, and tried to use with Ubuntu Studio without much success. I could use it, but it was fiddly to control then.

The studio has remained unused for a while, but I am keen to resurrect this now. I have pretty much given up on the 1820M with Linux, and I am considering using a Presonus Firepod (Firewire would be a real asset for me).

So, is this a good approach? Maybe 1820M support has improved, anyone using one without too much hassle?

I am considering just giving up on the whole Linux thing for this application, and getting a Mac. But, I would love to get an usable Linux solution.

Any comments, suggestions etc. would be most welcome :)

You can check the usability of a firewire interface from the ffado's database: http://www.ffado.org/?q=devicesupport/list

If you have a usb or pci device check it here: http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Main

Also you may have a look at Linux Studio Pro's website: http://www.linuxstudiopro.com/

PS: Nice visual effects on that site, I wonder how they did it!?

Hi, thanks for the links. It seems that the Firepod is a good choice for Linux systems, I think I will just have to buy one & try :)

Be aware that it is the firepod that works and not the newer firestudio (not yet anyways)... Using one here - pretty awesome - If you haven't got a firewire controller yet try and get a texas instruments controller- they do perform better under linux than anything else out there
