i started a thread here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=975930

but i didnt really set out what i needed clearly from the start.

i am running hardy heron 8.04 with all updates. i have installed wicd. what i need is to be able to use a

huawei e169 3g/hsdpa usb stick

to connect to the internet. i had imagined there was some way it could be automatically detected (as it is on my housemates vista laptop). i had hoped wicd would do this. it doesnt seem to.

is there a relatively simple solution? what about if i upgrade to intrepid ibex 8.10?

thanks again to nothingspecial for having a go in the old thread (",)

Well there has been a big revamp of the networking interface in 8.10, so you may get better results if you do upgrade.

I would say it is worth a try. :)
