Hi chaps....
got one of these :
http://behringer.com/UCA202/index.cfm?lang=ENG
and was just wondering if there's a basic music recording program something like sony acid. I've tried Ardour and get totally confused with the interface. I just want something that recognises there's an input signal and records it in the track I want it to go.
Any Ideas?
or is it gonna be a virtual box + sony live?

You could try audacity (audacity.sourceforge.net/). I think you may be able to do a simple record from input with that app. It should also be in the repositories.

if you find audacity too complicated you might struggle for find something in linux. i found audacity instantly useable when i first used it years ago, so maybe its just because you're used to this sony software too much :p
you could consider this: http://www.jokosher.org although you might consider it too complicated too since its pretty similar to audacity.

Cheeky swines!!! i'm sure I can cope with it.... it's just last time i tried to use ardour i couldn't work out what the interface was coming up as in jack and couldn't work out how to link everything together... I think it was more to do with configuring the usb thing than the software... may eventually go back to it but for the moment i just want something quick and easy just to get stuff down... I'll try audacity as a lot of peeps seem to use it... I just want something where you click on a track... it records what you play... you click on another track... it records what you play in the second track rather than having everything hooked up to specific tracks... maybe in the future when i get a bit more clue'd up on the subjet...
cheers for pointing me in the right direction...:guitar:
i'll keep y'all posted...

Audacity is probably what you are looking for -- Ardour is better for large projects. If you have jack sorted then you can look at Jack Time Machine - which is the simplest recording interface I know.

Woot!!! finally got it all working!!! better than sony acid in windows!!! i can have a different output to input where as acid you get just one and I had to swap it over to listen back...
Cheers guys!!!!
I may still have a fiddle with ardour later... I was using a laptop before which probably wasn't the best idea... :lolflag:
Just need to learn how to play... :guitar:

But once you get into that spaceship it opens up galaxies. I just got ardour all synced up with rosegarden and hydrogen. It is just awesome what you can do with that setup.
It was totally worth the time and effort because now everything is so fast and so simple. The best thing to do is ignore most of the options in ardour at first because you don't need to change them for basic recording. I am in the process of writing a basic how to get people going and so they can understand what this setup can do so and how powerful and easy it can be once you get it all dialed in.
