I am looking to get a webcam for my son's computer. He would probably be using it mostly with Cheese, but I'd eventually like him to be able to video chat with relatives in other states. I have looked around and found conflicting reports on various cams depending on its use. One that I have looked at is the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 but I am just not sure.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I noticed that quickcam 9000 pro was only $69 with free shipping when i was looking at the videochat feature for googletalk:

I use a Logitech Quick Cam Communicate Deluxe webcam that works with Linux as is. I found a list somewhere that mentioned this camera working with Linux. I paid $38.00 including shipping via ebay. It has a microphone also.

If you don't mind my asking, has it worked across the board or only with certain programs?

Thanks!

The web cam video shows up in Ekiga. No audio. I guess I would have to configure Ekiga. I only want a Webcam to record the audio and video into my PC but I have not found an application that works. The discussion of this subject in the forums appears to die. I may look again sometime.

The webcam works very well with my Asus EEE PC which has an application for recording. Both audio and video work fine with that small laptop.

Your mileage may vary.
