View Full Version : Two totally unrelated questions/feature requests

Hi,
This seems to be the most appropriate place in the forums to post a couple of feature requests I've been thinking about for a while now, but never got around to asking for.
The first, and most practical/easy to implement, is for the page selection buttons when browsing forum pages:
http://img60.imageshack.us/img60/4793/screenshotresolutioncenkn5.png (http://img60.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshotresolutioncenkn5.png)
When I check into my favorite categories, I go through pages one by one like most people probably do. Those little arrows for moving ahead or back one page at a time are a little tricky to click on; they're no easier to click on than individual numbers.

Think we (and by we, I mean you) could change those arrows to say "<Prev" and "Next>" so you don't have to be so precise with the mouse when moving through pages? There's "<<First" and "Last>>" ones already...
Secondly - and this may already exist and I'm just ignorant of it - is there an RSS or live bookmark for forums or subscribed posts?
Thanks.

In my mind > is a standard indicator of a next page/next something. I do not see this as a huge issue.

It's not 'huge' but still something of an accessibility issue.
It's not that ">" and "<" are incomprehensible. It's just that they occupy so little space on the screen that they take more concentration to click on than a larger control (such as a button) would. And since they are not always in the same place with respect to the screen, you have to actually look and move the cursor there.
Not a huge issue, but there's room for improving the usability.

Cool, I´m not the only one! I gave up using < and > a while ago because it required more hand-eye coordination than I had the time for. Even -> and <- would be better...and it's not that alarming of a change, nor does it take up undue amounts of screen real estate.
So:
Pros: Improves usability for some idiosyncratic people.
Cons: Er.....?

As for the arrows, I can't help ya - it's a vBulletin thing. (ubuntu-geek?)
RSS is pretty simple: just click the RSS icon on the location bar in Firefox for the feeds. The main feed with all of the posts is:
http://ubuntuforums.org/external.php?type=RSS2
If you are viewing a subforum, you will also have another feed. For example, Forum Feedback and Help is http://ubuntuforums.org/external.php?type=RSS2&forumids=48
I don't believe there is an RSS feed for subscribed posts.

1) It is a theme thing not a vBulletin back end thing.
2) Not every one uses FireFox and to make this assumption on the web is not the way of the interwebs :)

1) It is a theme thing not a vBulletin back end thing.Don't know about it being theming; topic numbering would most likely be in the core / localization as the numbering isn't static. Could be wrong though.
2) Not every one uses FireFox and to make this assumption on the web is not the way of the interwebs :)I know, but most browsers can do this as well. Epiphany (w/ extension) can do it, even Internet Explorer.

1) I have never worked with themes for VB but the phpbb3 themes ANY html/css code that is given to the front end user can be altered to suite your display needs. I would assume that this can also be done (provided with some work) in VB, (considering the huge improvement thet ubuntu-geek already did)
2) Not the point though. It is something that *should* be added as it is a not a standard browser feature and we should not assume they are using FF/Epiphany/Internet Explorer - so we have listed 3 out of how many :)
In the world of web browsers to assume any thing defies the point of web browsing.

By the way, there isn't a way to get your subscribed threads through RSS feeds. Is this possible at all with vBulletin?

That link is under Subscribed Threads, List Subscriptions.
Or are you talking about requesting to be able to view your subscriptions via rss.

RSS I believe, and there doesn't appear to be, sorry.
