Hello All,

First post in a while, I figured I'd engage in some friendly conversation.

Who here has installed q4 successfully and is playing it under ubuntu? How's the performance with your hardware? I'm considering buying it as I'm a huge quake nut (I've even been playing q3 recently), but before I do, I need to pick up some more memory and another vid card.

What do you guys think about the game so far also?

hiya,

well i dont play q4 under ubuntu as i havent bothered delving into linux gaming yet but i can tell you that the game is really good. Dont believe the doubters and hecklers - the single player game is like another quake2 game and the multiplayer is just like i remember quake3, if youre a 'quake nut' (as you put it) you really wont be dissapointed!

I always thought q2 single player was extremely good for its time compared to all of the other fps's. Thanks for the recommendation.

I play it! Installed on linux and running okay for my specs. Bought the DVD addition, which had some nice bonuses. Worth every penny.

I play it. Quality is a tad lower than it on Windows with the same settings (though it could be something in my config file) but it runs better IMO.

I bought it as soon as the linux client came out because I was impressed that it came out so fast. I haven't played it much beyond beating single player, but it works great.

I have installed quake 4:twisted: all good except the sound issue with alsa which i solved.
But game is almost _not_ playable for me, AthlonXP 2400+ 2x256DDR500 and an ATI9800SE AIW. \\:D/Quake3\\:D/ runs smoothly but Quake4 (between 10 and 25 fps) not... thnx to [-XATI:mad: ... I need to [-o< to ATI...

Buy it if u have a =D>Nvidia Card! (IMHO)

I have an AMD x2 x/ nividia 6800 gt and running on 64-bit kernel. It runs as good as or better than it did when I had windows.
