Just a reminder for some with older PPC hardware..
A quickie step to get the latest LTS 8.04 release might be to install the older Dapper 6.06.1, and do an immediate upgrade to Hardy 8.04. This is obvious to most of us, but for newcomers who may not want to hang out in the threads, read the faqs, etc, and just want to try and get up and running asap, this might be worth a shot if trying to install Hardy 8.04 directly doesn't work.
If you do get Dapper running, write or print out your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, as well as your /etc/yaboot.conf for future reference in case the upgrade to 8.04 misses something.
You can grab the older Dapper 6.06.1 from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/6.06.1/release.1/
If torrents are available, obviously use that.
If Dapper doesn't install, don't sweat, it just means you'll have to come back here and slug it out. :)
