I was just trying to put together a few video clips, and first of all, when Kino imports the .MOV files the audio doesn't match up with the video. And then it freezes after a few minutes. I've tried using it multiple times. Is there a solution to this or should I try a different video editing program?

I've noticed something similar.
1) Audio and video isn't in sync when editing. After export it is fine though.
2) At random kino hangs. When it does, there's a small piece of audio looping. After killing pulseaudio (killall -KILL pulseaudio) kino resumes to work. Of course I have to restart pulseaudio again. (ALT-F2 -> pulseaudio -D)
This looping/hanging only occurs in pulseaudio.

Convert your .MOV files into AVI first using ffmpeg.. THEN load into Kino.. Editors hate to convert, they just like to edit.
I have not tried DVGrab to capture but I have heard good things about it. Might work better at capturing than Kino
I like Cinelerra meself it does have a learning curve 4 sure. I am an Indie Filmmaker/ Video Hack and I have had much frustration finding an NLE on linux that works for me.. after much experimentation and headaches, I learned to use Cinelerra. Id say that Kino is a decent basic editor along with Kdenlive but they were too buggy w/ .mov files that I shoot in . I did not convert to AVI first though, prolly would have worked better.

If it is just for putting some clips together you could check avidemux.
Kino converts video format to .dv (might be in an .avi container) before editing. .dv files are large; maybe too large for your hardware ?
