No sound on ASUS V1jp

Hi. I have an Asus V1jp laptop, and I just installed Ubuntu 8.10. Everything works great except for sound. I remeber doing something to get the sound to work in 7.10, but it doesn't seem to be working in this version. For 7.10, all I did was add options snd-hda-intel enable=1 index=0 model=basic and the bottom of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base, but this time it isn't working after a reboot. Any suggestions?

I have exactly the same problem the old workaround that I used on 8.04 no longer works, anybody have any idea what to try to rectify this?
