I know it has preferences and whatnot, but what all does it have?

I have a messy (broken apps, too much crap, broken network-manager) install, and I'm backing up my /home right now. If I do a clean install off a 8.10 cd, and copy my /home folder back, will everything be cleaned up?

From the sound of it, I almost think you'd be better off starting from scratch, including the /home/ directory.

All your settings will be carried over, and if those settings are messed up now, they'll be messed up in the new installation.

About the only thing you'd want to save would be pictures, documents, stuff like that. And you should pretty much know what all that stuff is.

The rest, just pitch it and start over, hopefully getting things the way you want them the next time.

Thanks, I have most of my documents for school backed up with dropbox. I'm not sure if I want to take the plunge today though... >.<
