Hi

This is what has happened:
A few days ago I had an .avi file running in an VLC window. I paused the clip and a couple of minutes later I tried to watch a youTube film but the sound disappeared. But with a reboot the sound was back again.

However, yesterday I made the same mistake and the sound vanished once again, but this time no reboot has helped. I cant get sound from any audio program but if I turn on my microphone I can here my self talk so I am very puzzled...

Any ideas to what has happened and how I can fix this??

Cheers!

I have a similar issue. My sound just disapeared while playing a game and restarting didn't help. If I set sound to use OSS it will work, but that is less than ideal.

ALSA and PulseAudio will make a quiet crackle come out of the speakers whenever sound is supposed to be playing.

Didn't help. Problem is still as described.

EDIT: I feel like such an idiot. As it turns out, the PCM volume meter was hidden from the manager, and muted. Thanks for your help.

And I checked my PCM volume as well...
