Hi I have a Laptop compaq V5000 with a AMD Turion 64 and 768 RAM I am trying to install Ubuntu in another particion because I have XP too. The thing is that it runs fin from the CD but when I try to install I get errors in the wireless and indicated me to go to x.org to obtain firmware updates or something like that. I have an 8.04 disk downloaded two month ago. You guys think the new 8.10 will be able to install in this laptop? Because I tried to update to 8.10 another compaq 2500 and I could not get audio. Thanks.

I'm not getting the issue here. If you put the LiveCD in and install it, can you actually get into a GUI? (Graphical User Interface)

The CD gives me an option to run ubuntu without installing and it runs fine from the CD but it does not complete the intallation.

Had the same issue, run it from the live CD first, then once it is running, click the install icon.

Try installing using the alternate CD: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadmirrors#alternate

And make sure you have your partitions setup correctly for the install: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/partitioning
