splitting videos by black screen

I have several videos that I would like split by black screen. I have been toying with different apps like avidemux and while avidemux does have this option but not nearly as automated as I need. I see I can write scripts for it and all so maybe I will do that but im just looking for alternatives or tips.

What I am hoping is maybe even a bash command something that will just split them and name them like file1.avi file2.avi etc
