I am looking for a way to convert my library of DVD back-ups to AVI to save space, and reduce the amount of data to stream. Currently, the library is \Movie Name\Video_TS\(files).

These movies are on an external hard drive attached to my MythTV backend. I was looking for a way to ssh into the backend and convert the movies over. I could use a UI based application, if you suggest.

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions... I am not stuck with AVI, but from threads I have read, it appears a generally used and often suggested format.

I have a few Video_TS files which I backed up originally from my DVDs now I'm not sure how to convert them onto .avi files.

Did you figure out how to do this?
