You can always check the blueprints for it (https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty), although currently there aren't any.

More detailed information about what exactly will be worked on will be available after the UDS which is scheduled for the 11th December.

A general idea though is that there will at least be the next GNOME version, the latest kernel along with OpenOffice 3 and a newer Firefox release.

But as we know from Intrepid, and perhaps earlier, blueprints is not a good way to check what is being worked upon. It's a messy mix between things actually being worked upon and things being wished for.

Yes, I've noticed that.

Yep. There was a thread in here somewhere about suggestion to improve the Blueprint situation.

I know this is going to sound trollish. But look at Fedora 10 and you have a good idea what is coming in Intrepid, at least in part. You will probably get DRI2, kernel modesetting and GEM on the X side of things. You will get the latest version of GNOME plus applications (looking at the schedule OOo3 and Firefox 3.1 are likely big easy items, hopefully Mono 2.4 but at least Mono 2.2).

Ubuntu doesn't do much actual desktop development on their own currently, most of the work is pulled in from other people and they are often a bit behind on early adoption (often for good reason like stability or feature completeness, other times for less good reasons).

In terms of Ubuntu-ish features, it is likely that the big plan to move all the infrastructure for packaging onto bazaar will finally happen for real, this doesn't really have a big impact on you as a user but it will make work easier for the maintainers (hopefully).

It hardly seems worth summing up, it's what you know already, you get new stuff. A few bits of polish here and there. The fun is likely to start with Jaunty+1, the highly anticipated Desktop Experience team (or whatever they are called) will come together in Jan/Feb and start cooking up new UI. What is to be expected from this team and how big it is nobody really knows. The work they do is not likely to really affect Jaunty much due to the lateness of the team starting work and impending freezes around that time.

Well either way i look forward to testing it, but right now it looks like i will be moving to fedora 10 heh, the preview release was pretty awesome.

During the development of Ibex someone did a "feature" or "what's new" thread on this forum. That was really nice, I sure hope someone will do something like that for Jaunty

It sounded rather insightful actually. :)

I know, but it would still be nice if such a thread will be created later. Perhaps after UDS
