Anyone got any (successful) experience of using the Roland USB interface (Roland RD driver for Windows and Mac) with Ubuntu or Ubuntu Studio? Running Ubuntu Studio on a somewhat outdated but nevertheless fully functional Dell Latitude C840 (a backup machine) until I get the hang of this. I'm trying to drive a Roland RD-700sx fitted with an SRX-06 expansion board. I have tried simply plugging in the USB cable, but as far as I can see Ubuntu Studio does not recognise that a new device has been connected (and even if it did, I wouldn't have a clue as to what to do about it ...)

Software: Using Rosegarden for the time being, but if anyone knows of a Cubase VST lookalike out there that might do the job better, I'm open to suggestions.

Any constructive comments appreciated.

Okay, have managed to get it working. Not properly, but that's a MIDI Sysex issue rather than an Ubuntu issue.

However, any helpful hints on pro-quality application software for MIDI studio work in an Ubuntu Studio environment would still be much appreciated.
