These days i try SUSE Linux and in overall i prefer Ubuntu / Kubuntu.

The only two things that i miss in Ubuntu / Kubuntu are the Boot Screen (it's nice but i don't mind choose OS in text mode) and Loading Splash from SUSE.

The Loading Splash in SUSE Linux is wonderful and i love it , you can also press ESC key to see what happen in background while the OS is loading.

I think Boot Screen and Loading Splash from SUSE are two things that the Ubuntu / Kubuntu team should imitate.

I have no screenshots of it , but people who try SUSE know what i am talking.

SuSE uses bootsplash, which is, as far as I know, a kernel patch, and there they have nearly any resolution and any colour depth, at the moment Ubuntu is limited to vga, 16 colours, that's why it's not looking to good. Yet I think for dapper we may have more colours. And the important thing about usplash is that it runs without any kernel modifications.

. . . . . the important thing about usplash is that it runs without any kernel modifications.

That's a good thing . but that suse start up is a cool thing.

The ubuntu method is much more elegant, and I am glad they did not try to implement kernal patches, as cool as it looks.

Personally I also like the redhat way, it starts up X and uses that. There is even talk of being able to log in while everything is loading.

I've posted a new LILO Boot screen... elsewhere I also saw Bootsplash for Ubuntu (that could be done if the kernel is patched)

I liked the Mandrake 10.1 LILO boot screen and splash more than SUSE's.

I absolutely HATE that SUSE lizard!
