View Full Version : [ubuntu] Fans periodically start spinning very loudly

I've noticed that periodically, the fans on my computer begin spinning very loudly. It's usually in 10 minute intervals, where for 10 minutes the fans go insane, quiet down for a bit, then go again. It happens even if the computer is idle.

I do have Compiz-fusion enabled, but it doesn't seem to make a difference if it's running or not.

I don't believe it's a cooling issue as the case is on it's side and open, so there is plenty of air circulation (Plus, just feeling it you can tell everything is cool as a cucumber).

Does anyone know what's going on?

EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm running Hardy Heron.

same here. yesterday installed Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit on my Dell XPS M1330 and fans work very loudly. Even if notebook is idle, fans are spining insanely :(

Update: found this thread and it solved my problem http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=948556&page=3
