Hello there, I'm writing this from my Windows partition because a lot of things in Ubuntu have "vanished"
1. Manager is missing, tried everything but can't find it, and since to connect I need the VPN manager (stupid provider) I have no internet on Ubuntu
2. the "borders" or whatever it's name is are missing, you know the thing with nice X that can close something
3. most keyboard shortcuts don't work
4. and is it normal when choosing in GRUB to have 12 Ubuntu when you have one installed
hope you can understand this and help T_T

option number 4: if you've done 4 kernel updates it's normal, you can delete some of these options by editing /boot/grub/menu.lst

for 2 or 3: Maybe you lost your window decorator (?). What happens if you type this on your screen:

/usr/bin/compiz-decorator
What happens?

for 1, what if you right-click the top panel and select 'Add to panel...', there you select 'Notification area'.
