I will be doing alot of design work with Scribus but it makes my comp run painfully slow. Killing productivity!!! Scrolling through docs is slow, selecting text boxes and getting the story editor running takes forever.
Looking for a solid PCI graphics card to get me moving and stay on deadline...
- Not an expert, so something well supported that wont take a ton of time to set up.
- 8.04 on a 32 bit machine with a PCI and 2 PIC-e slots
- Looking to spend between 100 and 200. Preferably 100 but I really need to get the performance up.

Can you post your machine specifications?
The work I do on Scribus has given me no issues at all.
I have a 1.73 gHz processor, 1GB or RAM, and onboard graphics, not some elaborate or expensive card.
I would personally simply suggest more RAM, though I don't know your details.

damn, i have a AMD Athlon X64 at 32bit, 3GB of DDR2 Ram.
I went out and got the NVidia 9800 GT for $200 and it is still slow as hell. I had to upgrade to 8.10 for the drivers, and it is slower than 8.04 in every way.
You dont have delays scrolling through pages or waiting for text boxes to become active when clicking on them?

Honestly no issues here.
I can scroll through a 20 page document with no lag, a 50 page document with no lag. No editing lags either.
You say you're running 32-bit on your 64-bit machine? It may be an issue with that.

juanpecan, do you have compiz enabled (the fancy 3D looks)?? Try disabling them (Right Click Desktop -> Change Background -> Select "Visual Effects" Tab -> Select "None")
I'd might help you with your slowness issue, but I have to admit, I have similar specs as you (CPU and RAM) and when it gets past 20 pages or so, it gets very slow in Scribus. Especially if I have a lot of pictures in it.
Try maybe making the pictures more low resolution (it should print with high resolution once done) or try finding something in the forums about speeding up scribus.
I can tell you right now, purchasing a new video card will make scribus no faster. At least not noticeably. Sorry. But enjoy the games! :)
