I have a Lexmark Printer. I am using Ubuntu 8.04. When I plug the printer in Ubuntu sees the printer but cannot get it setup. I have tried all the drivers that the printer setup has available to no avail.
I also went to http://localhost:631 tried to set it up there also. Cups sees it but could not set it up.
So I have found a driver on the internet and downloaded a tar.gz file lxx74-cups-0.8.4.2.tar.gz).
I need to know how to install the driver. I am still a newbie so please explain how to do it and what I am dong and I want to learn.

Hello,

can you please tell us exactly which model of lexmark printer you have? also how is it attached to your computer? parallel port, USB, ethernet, etc...

I got the driver downloaded and installed still it did not work. I took the printer to my sons M$ computer where I had borrowed it and found out the printer is dead. So I ordered a new HP Deskjet 6940 printer.

thanks

sorry to hear your old printer was dead. I looked at the specs of your new printer and it looks nice. congrats! I have no need for color so i always just use a laser printer. never have to worry about ink cartridges drying up :)
