I have a Inspiron 1526 and cannot get the mic to work , and most of the sound does not work correct.
Also the Wireless does not work. If I could get some help with these I would have it up and running.
Any help would be great as I am moving from Windows to Linux and would like to get all working. I am going to change 4 laptops to linux but want to get this working first so I can do the rest with out having to ask so many questions ,and to make sure that it will work!

Thanks

This seems to be the norm on running Linux on many machines.
It is just to limited, the machines it runs on is to few.

When Linux gets this worked out then they will get into the main stream , but in till this happens it will always be on to few machines to make a difference .

Over the years I have found this true. I really do hope this gets fixed so the world will have a better choice of Op Systems.

I've been using Ubuntu on a variety of different machines for over a year and I have never had any really significant issues. The issues I have run into have usually already been solved and the answer is in the forums.

There is not a lot of information in your post for anybody to provide any answers to. I'd suggest a few things.

1) I'd start by running Ubuntu 8.04 not the new 8.10. Dell has not put out any new repositories for 8.10 and there are a few things like the mic that are not yet working right. The 8.04 version is a long term supported (LTS) version and Dell has a repository that includes several fixes. Since upgrading my Inspiron 1525 to 8.10 last week there are a few things like the Mic that I have not been able to get working yet that worked fine with the 8.04 version.

2) Go to the Dell Linux Wiki. http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page There are a lot of answers for your questions there.

3) Anything that you can't find there, try searching for it in the Ubuntu forms. My experience has always been that it works better to search for my problems and work with previously open threads than it is to open a new thread that may cover a variety of problems.

Hopefully this will help you get things working.
