The Ubuntu alternate install cd claims to be able to upgrade your system without the use of the network.............THIS IS A LIE!!!!!! When I click the option to not use the network... it uses the network....when i disconnect the network it fails after just a little while. Maybe the people building this stuff should actually try it before they release it:confused::confused::confused::confused::confuse d::confused::confused::confused:
So yeah the alt cd's main purpose doesn't work and therefore its kinda pointless.
Btw, there is nothing wrong with my CD I md5 summed it plus verified it through bit torrent.
Anywho...w/e

I'm not really sure what you are complaining about, your post really doesn't make a lot of sense. You need a network connection to install Ubuntu and to keep it up to date. Could you please provide a link to where you saw that a network connection wasn't needed.

Click here (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/IntrepidUpgrades). Go down to Upgrading Using the Alternate CD/DVD.

I didn't read that far down the page:) Next time I do a clean install with the alternate, I'll pull the cable and see how it works.
