Hi, umm, I wanted to know why the Wine uninstaller doesn't uninstall stuff???
I know that there are manual methods, but i want to know why that particular feature of Wine is completely useless?

What do you mean it doesn't uninstall "stuff"? What exactly doesn't get uninstalled?

I use it all the time and, with rare exceptions, it always uninstalls applications. Shortcuts in the applications menu will get left behind, but that is normal (you have to manually delete them).

well, for mw Wine in 8.04 & 8.10 never was able to delete any application. many others were having the same problem.

Wine can uninstall things just fine, however the link in the Applications menu will remain due to a bug.

Nonononono and once again no ;)
Almost never worked for me.
On some, rather rare occasions, but it usually fails or decides to reinstall a program....I think he's talking about that and I can confirm that it's ....lacking.
Manually removing menu entries is not a problem to us but the actual unistall process does not work the way it's supposed to be.
Sure it does work for the odd standard unistaller from around 2002 and it also does work for some big name products which tend to use a wizard which we all know.
But as soon as it's not about "my WOW uninstaller works just fine over here"...it basically does nothing at all or actually manages to freeze.

PS: As always, if this sounds like a rant to you..its not a rant ;)

Do not uninstall.
If you say that it does remove the files and only the link remains, why does the program run perfectly after i've run the uninstaller?
I'm having a small problem for which i can't use my comp for a few days, i'll have a larger list when i have my comp back.

I'm really just experimenting with Ubuntu to see if i can implement it in my office, I'm really happy with the bundeled software.

take it as a small miracle you can even run windows programs on linux with wine.
And also linux and wine will get better over time.

A lot of interest growing by the day around the world for linux, so you know being open source, more programmers working on linux prjects, more the merrier!

It's only natural that some apps simply refuse to install. Wine is still far from perfect, after all, and there are so many different types of installers that do things in so many different ways that Wine can't possibly support them all yet. Wait it out and see if newer versins work, or just delete the application's folder from ~/.wine (and if you want it REALLY clean, just remove ~/.wine).

I am having the same problem of Wine not uninstalling things at all. You can run the programs uninstaller in Wine and it will act like it completely finished and removed the application. But in truth the uninstaller didn't do a single thing, you can click on the program icon and it will still run fine.

I was wondering if this was a problem that was created when we all updated the linux-headers through the update manager. Maybe we have to upgrade our versions of wine?

I am using Wine 1.1.8
