I have a Yamaha keyboard that's been collecting dust for the last 4 years and I've decided to whip it out and get back to trying to write some music again. I used to use the game-port daughter board that came with my creative labs sound blaster audigy 2, but I get the feeling USB might perform better (I really can't justify that hunch with any research). Hope I didn't just waste 9 bucks on that adapter.
While I wait for it to show up in the mail, I wanted to get a feel for the kinds of music composition software that's available for Ubuntu. I've never installed Ubuntu Studio from a CD before.... and I really don't want to do that right now. I once tried to install some kind of ubuntu studio package via Synaptic, but I was very confused about how to use the software that comes with it.
The software I've tried in the past is Propellerhead's Reason. I'm betting something that elaborate doesn't exist in the world of Linux yet, but I'm sure there are some kinds of tools out there that might suffice. So what should I install and check out?
