"Wine is a compatibility layer for running Windows applications on Linux.
Applications are run at full speed without the need of cpu emulation. Wine
does not require Microsoft Windows, however it can use native system dll
files in place of its own if they are available."

For internet messaging you can use Pidgin, which is installed by default, or use Synaptic Package Manager and search for internet messaging.

8.10 has a version of that installs flawlessly via applications - add remove
you can also update to the newest version by following the following instructions at the wine hq website

Just curious, where did you get the idea that Wine is an instant messaging application?
