Hello,

Brand new to Ubuntu. Running v8.10. Experimenting on an older D810 laptop, and compared to windows, it's a new machine.

But I'm having an issue with running dual monitors - laptop screen and a 20" widescreen attached to the docking station. As soon as I put the screens side by side, the external monitor displays all kinds of garbage on the right side.

Odd thing - if I stack the monitors, it seems to work fine.

My D810 is running ATI video. Dock is the full size dock, not the port replicator. I don't know if the video in the dock is the same as the laptop.

Sorry for the noob-ness. If I can provide more info, please let me know what you need.

Thanks in advance,
Rick

Same thing was posted twice.

I got the same thing at first, then I just killed my X session (CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE) and when it came back up it was fine.

By the way, video didn't work well at all with my upgrade, when I did a clean install everything worked much better.

My D810 now works well with two monitors now, but when I boot it standalone, the screen resolutions won't give me 1680x1050 or 1900x1200.

Unfortunately, your suggestion didn't work.

I have a clean install of 8, and no matter what I do I end up with garbage on the right hand monitor. Doesn't matter if I swap monitors (laptop on right, external on left) in the system resolution panel.

Curious thing is if I stack the monitors on top of one another - then they both look just fine.

Thanks for your feedback.
