View Full Version : Crossover + Steam = Invisible?

Hi,
Using the free Crossover Games (yay Lame Duck!) I downloaded Steam.
The Steam window opens and, when I press alt-tab, it shows a thumbnail view of the window. However, when I focus on the Steam window, it is invisible. I can tell that it's there (cursor style change and clicks do not affect the window beneath), but it doesn't appear in "normal" visibility.
Any thoughts? Could it have to do with Ibex?

I too have the same problem, but I can see it if I deactivate Compiz. I do not have this problem with "vanilla" Wine.

Disable compiz-fusion by going to:
System > Preferences > Appearance
Then tab over to "Visual Effects" and select none.
Apply.

Open the wine config.
(In crossover it's in the bottle config menu)
Uncheck allow window manager to draw borders.
This got mine to come up. It's still slightly opac, but it shows up. Sometimes it doesn't come up at first. Right click on panel, close window. Go to steam icon in corner and open via store tab. Opening via games tab does not always work. At least in my experience.
Too bad mic support is a no go. I don't use it a lot, but it'd be nice.

Has anyone come across an 'actual' fix? I hate disabling compiz (i use quite a few features) everytime I wanna play CSS or use steam.

the actuall fix is to not use Compiz.
Sorry until compiz become standardised and works in afixed manner, wine will struggle to support it fully.

Well that's not an actual fix. It doesn't fix the problem it just removes the source... which isn't the same.
