M1330 top buttons for sound work?

Should my top buttons be working for sound. Mine do not work at all.

The volume icon appears on the screen when I press them, but the volume does not change,

Maybe I do not have the default sound drivers in use.

Is there a way to check or reset them?

I do remember messing with settings trying to get the HDMI sound to work.

Mine stopped working a couple days ago.
