Hey!! I just made my first decent wallpaper! :) It's nothing too increadibly complex or such, but I enjoy it. =] Being developed within Ubuntu, and with the Ubuntu principles in mind, this is completly free, and your free to do anything you want with it. In fact, I encourage it, I'd love to see some variations or improvements too it. One more thing, if you use it for your desktop, I'd love it if you'd reply so, that'd make my day!

That's pretty nice. And it's pretty minimalistic, too, which I like. :)
The only problem is that it's only 800x640... my desktop is 1280x1024. So it's pretty small.

Thank you very much!
it looks nice, ill put the xubuntu one on my workspace for a few days to see how it looks there.
Awesome, thank you very much! Be sure to tell me how it turns out!:)

Your completely right. It seems that photobucket automatically resized it for some reason. Regardless, I uploaded another one this time with the proper measurements. Be sure to tell me if you want the Ubuntu or Kubuntu logo in proper size!:)
Cheers!

No bad. Middle one the text and logo is to blurry. Try using layers and only a slight blur on background text with sharp foreground text. Basically give the text a drop shadow. And sharp Ubuntu logo.

looks great, but the ubuntu logo is too blurred, does not have to be as sharp as the kde one , but definitely sharper

First off, thanks for looking. =]
Second off... yea I was afraid of that, the blurry logo. If I don't blur it enough it looks pretty bad, but obviously I blur'd it a bit too much. :/
Thanks for the imput. =]

Two questions:
Do you have source for this (.xcf or .svg)
Do you use Inkscape? (if you dont you should give it a try :KS)

Thanks for replying :)
1) No, stupid mistake on my part. It's not really fancy though (multiple layers or the such) so you'd probably be just as well of with the normal image then the source.
2) Nope, used gimp. Thanks for the suggestion, i'll give inkscape a try.

Nice wallpaper!
By the way, what do you mean it looks bad if not blurred? Did you get a low quality logo from somewhere?
Also, don't use photobucket! Use www.gnome-look.org instead. It's meant for wallpapers.
How about making it brown?

And It looks bad, because it just seems to sharp... it badly contrasts with the picture.

If it's the first wallpaper then it's ok.
Beter don't blur "ubuntu" logo and text. Place them closer to center and make them smaller (so that AWn would not overlap).

Personally it isn't to my taste, however I think it's nicely done etc. and it's just me being picky. Hint: try doing a random squiggle of black brush in gimp, and then doing wirl and pinch. It gives a nice effect IMO.Keep up the good work!:o

Did you copy and paste the logo from another wallpaper? Or did you get the vector version and applied the effects yourself? I recommend the latter.

Hehe, very old topic. But thanks for comments.
Half of the people like blurry logo, and half don't. Not much I can do. :\

Fzang, thank you for sharing your opinion. Yes it's a bit old, but I never complain when my topics are bumped :P I personally don't share your opinion, as I remember the wallpapers from 1999 (Aka, Windows 98) to be increadably bland and pixley. But everyone has their own opinion. =)

-but now the question: WHY THE DICKENS DO YOU HAVE A WINDOWS LOGO IN YOUR AVATAR???
Because I use Windows more then Ubuntu. ;) I designed the avatar because the logo is a circle, and so is the Ubuntu logo, so I fit a circle within a circle. Clever, eh? ;) Unfortunately none of the logos are transparent, so if you guys happen to find a transparent windows logo gimme a call.

Just having a little fun  Yours is very good too, I just got a little mad at seeing the windows logo in the center, like we are based on windows. But then, I use windows more than ubuntu also (6 hours a day (homeschooled with AOP Switched-On-Schoolhouse(SOS for short))) and I am sure a lot of us use windows more than we like to admit. But still no thanks to Microsoft, they get *paid* to be good. $) but very nice.Totally.:guitar:(in other words thanks again)

You will surely want to kiss me after I give you this suggestion. Make a gigantic version of whichever wallpaper you are making and post it in desktop nexus (http://www.desktopnexus.com/). What this site does is automatically detect the person's computer resolution and resize for their resolution, so that way everyone can have their resolution without having to ask you to make them their custom res. Hope that helps, nice backgrounds BTW.

Excellent suggestion. Unfortunately that would require re-doing the entire wallpaper, so while I may do it later I have too much to do right now.

Mr CJ,
if you are bored, would you be willing to replace the ubuntu/kubuntu logo with 'Masonux' in whatever font/logo you feel fits best and allow me to use it as such? :D
can you provide the nifty blue without a logo and the logo seperately, as well, so i can play with it if need be?
(or no logo if you don't feel like it -- the blue sans any logo would work.)
