View Full Version : SD Card Icon?

This is a bit obscure, but I've been searching high and low, and through various themes to find a nice icon for my SD Card. The only one I've found so far is a low qual one, which was part of my NuoveXT theme.
Last resort is to make the icon myself, but first does anyone know where I can find a good one?

Well I just made one, nowhere near as hard as I thought. The GIMP is really easy to use. I thought I'd upload it to what people think... mind you it could use some work, just a quick fix to replace the ugly one on my desktop.
Ooh my 100th post!

Can you do something with one of these?

Google image search (http://images.google.com/images?q=%22SD+card%22&imgsz=icon) is your friend.

That's what I ended up doing.
I was hoping to find an icon that someone had created as part of a theme because I have no delusions of my skills at creating icons; nil. :) I was able to find heaps of pics of SD cards but no nice icons. But that's okay, making your own is much more fun.

That's pretty nice but try to raise the shadow from the right side folder flap so that part of the card is also in shadow?

And also shear the card layer so that it looks like it's parallel with the back of the folder.

Of course! I thought something looked a bit funny, with that and some others I tried. Thanks!
And also shear the card layer so that it looks like it's parallel with the back of the folder.
That would look neat too, cheers!

Okay some shear and some perspective, but the shadows are hard. :(

Any advice on doing a drop shadow from the SD card and the shadow of the folder on the SD card; which I want to look like it has been raised off the back. Plus I'd probably want to give the card some depth but I'm not sure you'd see it when its reduced as an icon.

Any advice on doing a drop shadow from the SD card and the shadow of the folder on the SD card; which I want to look like it has been raised off the back.Ok, what I would do is first make three layers. Folder at the back, card second, and a copy of the folder flap on top. Then make a drop shadow of the card from a suitable angle (drop shadow is in Script-Fu) then make a bigger shadow from the front flap at the same angle.
If you can post the xfc source (might need to change the extension to something acceptable as an attachment), I'll have a go...

That's how I started, by separating front and back, then wedging the card in the middle.

Oooh I didn't know about this, thanks I'll give it a shot.

Sure, I noticed that GIMP allows saving as a bzip or gzip file. I'll put in the unskewed one too. Cheers!

Try these. I had to manually tweak the shadow, and I removed the original one.

Wow that was quick! That looks really good. That drop shadow in Script-Fu is very clever.

Wow that was quick!Well, I don't have much to do just now... That looks really good.Thanks. I think there's still room for improvement though, the shadow isn't quite at the right angle compared with the shadow behind the folder itself. That drop shadow in Script-Fu is very clever. There are quite a few nice scripts in there. Also, if you're looking for webpage headers, look in Xtns>Script-Fu>Logos in the main gimp window.
Literally a few clicks and you can produce things like:

True. Still from the desktop its not instantly noticable, and it gives me a good idea of how to improve it.

Nice! :p *Is there anything the GIMP can't do?* (Don't answer that if there is ;))

If you're interested in that particular effect. It's called Shrek Text and I'm not sure if it's included by default as I downloaded it.
Just in case...

xmastree: how do I install that font? I copied it into ~/.fonts (which I created). Is that what's required?

xmastree: how do I install that font? I copied it into ~/.fonts (which I created). Is that what's required? If you mean the file I attached, it's a script not a font. It goes in /usr/share/gimp/2.0/scripts
I'll attach the actual font I used here.

So it is, and it works great! Cheers! I think I got confused with another font I was installing for OOo.
