I am brand new to linux and hosting and I am trying to setup a name based virtual host for several domains. I am running windows xp with vmware and the latest version of Ubuntu.

I am not understanding how to configure the files on apache to make this happen. I don't quite understand the syntax of the examples used to explain how to do this. Is there a 'Dummies' version of reference on how to do this?

Take a look at this :

it has the basics for you to take a look at

Thanks. I was able to clean up the mess I made from other configurations I was follow. So I do not have any apache2 errors. But I must have some networking issues because I cannot bring up the website. Firefox says failed to connect.

Any thoughts on networking 101 for this type of setup or ideas on what's wrong?

I think everything works fine now... I was not substituting localhost with the name I assigned to it stephen-desktop! so I kept getting errors. As a newbie I get confused substituting real entries for the generic terms...
