View Full Version : [ubuntu] Lockout problem

Today I set up a server with Ubuntu 8.10 Server Edition. It is going to be a headless server in the end, but I have had the monitor hooked up to verify it's functionality. It was working just fine through SSH and otherwise until this evening when it started locking me out. I didn't make any user changes, so this seemed really weird to me.

When I log in through SSH, this is what happens:

ssh jonests@192.168.10.9
jonests@192.168.10.9's password:
Connection closed by 192.168.10.9
tyler@tyler-lappy:~$

So logically I tried to go to the server unit and log in. This is what happens:

Ubuntu 8.10 ChuckNorris tty1

ChuckNorris login: jonests
Password:

Ubuntu 8.10 ChuckNorris tty1

ChuckNorris login:

It will loop like this forever. If I input an incorrect password, it will tell me, but if I put in the right password, it just loops me back to the login prompt. What can I do to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have another user that you can try to login with?
