Hi,

I upgrade to ubuntu 8.10, but when I play video file after the upgrade,
the video plays is flicking (blinking with blank screen).
I try both the vlc and 'movie player' it shows the same result.

Can you please tell me how can I fix this problem?

Thank you.

On my laptop the problem was solved by setting visual effects to "none".

Well, not solved, I guess, but it's a working workaround. I hate having to re-configure compiz after watching a movie...

It can be fixed by setting the output device or something to X11 in your player. Totem is the only player, where you cannot set the output device, so use Mplayer or VLC. But I have one problem with it, it lags fullscreen, so I installed GNOME Mplayer. With that, fullscreen was smooth with X11 output.
