Live cd, where do I get it and how do I use it?
Every download of UBUNTU that I have dowloaded off the internet has checksums that don't match and the OS hangs somewhere, either on install or bootup. What gives?

Impossible to say.
With the info you have provided, there is no way anyone has a clue what the problem is.

I can tell you this: If the checksums don't match, discard the batch!

Consider downloading and sharing the torrent. I haven't had a problem with checksums and burning CD's.

+1 ...torrent clients do a running hash check on the download and discard/re-download bad portions, thus you will rarely see this problem with iso's downloaded via torrent

If you continue to have problems downloading a good copy of Ubuntu, consider requesting a free CD be sent to you (yep, they'll ship it FREE!). Granted, it may take a couple of weeks to get to you, but at least you'll know you have a good copy of Ubuntu. Here's the link:

I never gave torrent a try for downloading this:) but the two universities in Michigan that I've attempted to download from [guess where I live] heh. I've gotten a sour taste of this states "Higher Education" since I can't seem to get a "clean" iso from them. Trust me, it's not from lack of trying. I have downloaded and then uninstalled more times than I care to count. Mich Tech and Wayne State have given me crap every time I've tried.
