Steam "freezes" after login?

I've installed Steam with wine and it works. I get to the login screen and everything but once it gets to the main window, it just freezes and I have to logoff my session to get rid of it.
I'm guessing it has something to do with Steam using explorer for its latest news and stuff, but since it works for other people I'm not sure if this is the case.
Any ideas?

Have you installed the Mozilla ActiveX control?

I"m in the same boat as you. I have installed the ActiveX file as per the tutorial. I did exactly as it said but after styping wine steam, it starts steam, logs me automatically, news windows comes up, and thats that, have to close the terminal just to shut it down. Any ideas?
