Jaunty needs to have splashy (http://splashy.alioth.debian.org/wiki/doku.php?id=start), too
The plain grub stinks

No, Jaunty should have Plymouth. I like splashy, but Plymouth takes advantage of the new modesetting patches coming in kernels 2.6.28 and 2.6.29.

No, its what Fedora 10 has. It will start being used more once the rest of the patches for modesetting make it into the 2.6.28 and 2.6.29 kernels.

Will Plymouth work with Grub2? Or Grub2 ready i should say?

It should, it has nothing to do with grub2, as its a boot splash.

Splashy is a bootsplash, grub is a bootloader.
Your basic misunderstanding of these two concepts would indicate a potential for learning.

You may also want to want to search forums, we already have a long splashy v. usplash thread (which incidently seems to have turned into a pro-plymouth thread). It is very informative as to why splashy is not viable as a usplash replacement and why plymouth presents us with an interesting forward/backwards compatible solution for the future.

You are thinking of GFXboot---it's a mod of GRUB1 & yes, Plymouth is much better....

No, OpenSUSE uses Splashy along with GFXBoot.
