No Sound and XFCE Won't Load

My question are:

1. Is my sound card installed according to the output and just not detected or is it not even recognizing it at all? I have a Dell CPi D266XT laptop and the onboard sound is turned on in the bios.

2. My XFCE doesn't always load. I've run it once, but have not seen it under my applications menu since. Any suggestions?
